Los Angeles-based novelist Rachel Kushner’s new book, The Flamethrowers, follows a young protagonist from land speed trials in the Utah salt flats to the downtown art world of 1970s New York to the milieu of massive upheaval in Italy in 1977. Her exhilarating novel has been roundly praised by the likes of the New Yorker, and she will present it on Thursday, May 9, at a Happy Hour Salon from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Press Street HQ (3718 St. Claude Ave.) along with local novelists Nathaniel Rich and Zachary Lazar.
